Flowers (Deutsche Post)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The floral stamp series is the current definitive series of Deutsche Post AG , which has been published since January 3, 2005. Up to August 2020, 64 items with a total nominal value of 95.32 euros had been released, some of which were also self-adhesive stamps or stamps with an artificial floral fragrance. The stamps are issued in rolls with different quantities and in miniature sheets . There are also self-adhesive stamps as roll brands in branded boxes and as brand sets in the form of stamp booklets or so-called foil sheets.

Issue occasion

“The Flowers series wants to draw people's attention to the beauty and diversity of flowers in gardens and the great outdoors in Germany with modern and at the same time timeless motifs. The colorful and atmospheric depictions should help to rediscover and enjoy the little joys of everyday life, which are often barely noticed in our hectic times. "

- Deutsche Post AG - The postage stamps of the Federal Republic of Germany

motive

Each stamp shows a type of flower. The brands were designed by graphic designers Stefan Klein and Olaf Neumann from Iserlohn .

In 2007, Deutsche Post held a photo competition among postal customers for the first time to find the motif of a new brand. The photo of a carnation by Mario Strasser emerged as the winner from over 50,000 entries . This motif was published on October 9, 2008 and has a face value of 25 euro cents.

The stamps are produced in the multi-color offset printing process at the Bundesdruckerei in Berlin on coated white, fluorescent postage stamp paper DP 2 in a size of 21.5 × 30.13 mm.

particularities

  • As with all stamps that are printed in rolls and sheets, horizontal pairs and marginal pieces of the stamps form a special collection area, because you can use them to prove that the stamps come from sheets.
  • Since the mid-1960s there have always been two Federal German definitive stamp series. One series was only issued in sheets, the other was issued in rolls for machines and post offices (but was also available in sheets for collectors). The flower delivery is the only permanent series, so it breaks with this rule. It replaced the two long-lasting series Sights and Women in German History .
  • So far, the Federal Republic's permanent series have always been in one or two colors. For the first time, a continuous series is produced using complex multi-color offset printing.
  • After the post horn series and the accident prevention series, there is again a definitive series with no special reference to Germany.
  • There are two different types of self-adhesive brands in the series:
    • Brands from stamp booklets ("stamp set")
    • Brands made of rolls (“brand box”, box intended for business customers, from which the brands can be individually peeled off from a strip.) As with the counter rolls, every fifth brand has a serial number on the back.
  • On March 1, 2007, a composite was published with four values at 5 cents, four values at 10 cents and two values at 20 cents. The overprint is in the form of a booklet sheet, but was issued individually without protective cardboard. Since the border of the sheet is imperforated, there are new perforation variants for the stamps listed: All stamps are imperforated at the top or bottom, depending on whether they come from the top or bottom row, furthermore the stamps are imperforated at 20 cents on the right the two 5-cent stamps from the left margin are imperforated on the left. There has never been a comparable issue at Deutsche Post.
  • On March 1, 2010, a self-adhesive stamp set with 10 stamps with the motif garden rose appeared, which, when rubbed, smells of a rose.
  • On March 1, 2011, a self-adhesive stamp set was released with 10 stamps with the motif lily of the valley, which, when rubbed, smells of lily of the valley.
  • In Austria, too, a definitive stamp series with floral motifs was issued from 2001 to 2008 .
