The hare bells ( Hyacinthoides ) are a genus of plants within the asparagus family (Asparagaceae). The botanical genus name Hyacinthoides is derived from the genus name Hyacinthus and the Greek oides for similar. Home areas of the species are in western Europe and northwestern Africa .
description
Hyacinthoides species are perennial herbaceous plants . These geophytes form egg-shaped bulbs as persistence organs. Only a few basal leaves are formed per bulb ; they are simple and have parallel nerves.
On an inflorescence stalk there are many flowers in a terminal, racemose inflorescence together with two bracts per flower. The hermaphrodite flowers are threefold. The six similarly shaped bracts are only briefly fused at their base. They are 1.5 to 2 cm long and white to pink to blue. There are two circles with three stamens each. The three pistils have become a top permanent ovary grown together with one to ten ovules per ovary chamber. There are septal nectaries. The simple stylus ends in a swollen scar.
The three-lobed and three- chamber capsule fruit contains 3 to 30 black, more or less spherical, wingless seeds.
Systematics
For some authors, the species belong to the genus Scilla . A synonym for Hyacinthoides Heister ex Fabricius is Endymion Dum.
There are only about twelve species of Hyacinthoides :
- Hyacinthoides aristidis (Coss.) Rothm. : It occurs only in Algeria and Tunisia.
- Hyacinthoides cedretorum (Pomel) Dobignard : It occurs only in northern Algeria and Morocco.
- Hyacinthoides ciliolata (Pomel) Rumsey : Your home is northeastern Tunisia.
- Hyacinthoides flahaultiana (Emb.) Dobignard : Their home is southwestern Morocco.
- Spanish hare bells or bluebells ( Hyacinthoides hispanica ( Mill. ) Rothm. ): It is native to Portugal and Spain. The dust bags are blue.
- Italian hare bell or Riviera hare bell , Italian star hyacinth ( Hyacinthoides italica ( L. ) Chouard ex Rothm. ): Its home is southeastern France and northwestern Italy.
- Hyacinthoides kroumiriensis El Mokni, Domina, Sebei & El Aouni : The homeland is Tunisia. The species was first described in 2014.
- Hyacinthoides lingulata (Poir.) Rothm. : The homeland is Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia.
- Hyacinthoides mauritanica (Schousb.) Speta : It is native to northern Morocco and southwestern Portugal.
- Atlantic hare bell or common hare bell, forest hyacinth ( Hyacinthoides non-scripta (L.) Chouard ): The range extends from Western Europe to Portugal. The anthers are cream-colored. Only in this species is the inflorescence a little one-sided.
- Hyacinthoides paivae S.Ortiz & Rodr.Oubiña : The home is northwestern Portugal and northwestern Spain.
- Hyacinthoides reverchonii (Degen & Hervier) Speta : The home is the Sierra de Cazorla in Spain.
There are a number of hybrids that are used as ornamental plants :
- Hyacinthoides × variabilis P.D.Sell (Syn .: Hyacinthoides × massartiana Geerinck ) = Hyacinthoides non-scripta × Hyacinthoides hispanica . They tend to grow wild in the temperate latitudes and then become invasive plants .
