Postage stamps from the Federal Republic of Germany in 2002

The 2002 stamps issued by the Federal Republic of Germany were issued by the Federal Ministry of Finance . The German Post AG was responsible for the distribution and sale. The year comprised 56 individual special stamps , three block editions, five self-adhesive stamps, five definitive stamps from the Sights series as well as three women from German history and two machine brands . The face value for the special stamps including hammer price was 59.89 euros.

With the introduction of euro cash as legal tender on January 1, 2002, this was the first German postage stamp year to only name the new currency. The “crooked” amounts of 0.56 euros for a standard letter within Germany that resulted from the monetary union were only adjusted to 0.55 euros on January 1, 2003 (postcard from 0.51 to 0.45 euros). Stamps issued from December 5th had already been adapted to the new tariffs.
