Limes block issue (Michel number: 2623 or block 72)

UNESCO World Heritage Site is a series of stamps that has been issued in the Federal Republic of Germany since 1990 . The series shows UNESCO World Heritage Sites in loose succession . The Michel catalog also names the series the cultural and natural heritage of mankind .

All postage stamps issued in DM times were originally unrestrictedly valid for postage . With the introduction of the euro as a common European currency on January 1, 2002, this regulation became obsolete. The stamps that were issued with penny values could be used up by June 30, 2002. An exchange was possible until September 30th in the branches of the Deutsche Post , after that until June 30th 2003 centrally in the Philately branch of Deutsche Post AG in Frankfurt.

In the vote for Germany's most beautiful postage stamp in 2007, the Limes block edition (Michel number: 2623 or block 72) from the “UNESCO World Heritage Site” series won first place. In the vote for the most beautiful European postage stamp, the pad came second with 14.84% of the vote. First place went to Switzerland (15.44%) with the pad: " Stamp Day - Einsiedeln Monastery " .
