Postage stamps from 1973 of the German Federal Post Office
IBRA stamp exhibition in Munich (block number 9) |
The postage stamp year 1973 of the Deutsche Bundespost comprised 37 special stamps , two of which were only available together as a stamp block. In addition, there was a supplementary value from the accident prevention definitive stamp series .
All postage stamps issued since January 1, 1969 had unlimited postage validity and there was no expiration date as in previous years. With the introduction of the euro as a common European currency on January 1, 2002, this regulation became obsolete. However, the stamps of this year could be used until June 30, 2002. An exchange was possible until September 30th in the branches of the Deutsche Post , after that until June 30th, 2003 centrally in the Philately branch of Deutsche Post AG in Frankfurt.

particularities
The block issued on the occasion of the IBRA was sold at a price of 2.20 DM, although according to the branding the sales price should have been only 1.65 DM. In order to avoid misunderstandings, the higher sales price - the additional income was paid to the successful tenderer like the shown surcharge - is noted in small letters at the bottom right of the pad. In fact, the surcharge was not fifty percent, as usual, but one hundred percent.
As with the 1973 issue of “Bread for the World”, the “Rechenmaschinen” brand was printed, contrary to customary practice, only ten million times instead of around 30 million copies. The stamp was therefore sold out relatively quickly at the post office counters, but considering the experience with the brand “Bread for the World”, the influence of speculation and thus the price fluctuations remained relatively small. Nevertheless, the value of the brand was noticeably higher than that of other special stamps of the year for many years.
Remarks
- ↑ There were few exceptions, however; the definitive stamp series German Buildings from Twelve Centuries , the Brandenburg Gate and the special stamps in honor of the 1968 Summer Olympics in the city of Mexico were valid without restriction. These stamps were issued before 1969.
