Berlin buildings (stamp series)
Berliner Bauten is a West Berlin definitive series that appeared from 1949 to 1954 and was in use until around 1957. The series consisted of 24 single-color stamps printed in sheets . Some of the stamps were also available in stamp booklets and as rolls . It was the first of two independent Berlin postage stamp series. The so-called black and red overprints had previously been used on stamps of the Allied occupying powers.
The editions were valid until December 31, 1958.
particularities
- The 1, 2, 3 and 5 DM stamps are larger than the penny stamps and were printed using intaglio printing, the smaller values were printed using letterpress printing.
- With the 10-pfennig stamp, the roll stamp is a separate type (Type II). This reel stamp was issued unnoticed with a new final artwork in the early 1950s. Because of this, the reel brand (first 500, then 1000 reels) did not have its own catalog number, but was recorded as 47 II. Cancellation marks indicate April 1951 as the month of first issue. This has not yet been proven. They can be differentiated from type I based on some distinguishing features, which comes from sheets, stamps or stamps.
- Special collectors concentrate on primary (PM), secondary (SM) and tertiary (TM) characteristics for the individual pfennig values. A field determination is even possible using side margins and / or SM / TM . The market values were produced using intaglio printing and accordingly have fewer cataloged SM / TM. So-called vertical / horizontal hairlines are particularly noticeable due to plate damage.
Motifs
Each postage stamp in the series shows, with the exception of the Brandenburg Gate, the National Gallery and the Gendarmenmarkt, a West Berlin building or a complex predominantly in the pre-war state. Three of the four Mark issues are almost identical in motif to some of the Pfennig issues.
