Postage stamps issued in 1980 by the Deutsche Bundespost
The 1980 stamps issued by the Deutsche Bundespost comprised 33 special stamps . This year two definitive stamps of the castles and palaces series were issued. A special feature is the stamp for "Stamp Day" (Michel no. 1065), which was issued under the heading "FIP Congress" and has no textual reference to the issue of the day of the stamp, but was announced in the 1980 issuing program had been. In contrast to the standard, this stamp appeared in miniature sheets of ten with a special text print on the upper horizontal margin, although the stamps could certainly be purchased individually.
Another special postage stamp on the occasion of the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow had already been prepared, but was not issued due to the boycott of several Western countries. Nevertheless, a sheet of these stamps was used for the franking of mail by the wife of the then post office minister. Motif of Jacki, Olympic rings on a white and blue background, value 60 + 30 Pfennig, recorded in the Michelcat log under the number XIII.
All postage stamps issued since January 1, 1969 had unlimited postage validity and there was no expiration date as in previous years. With the introduction of the euro as a common European currency on January 1, 2002, this regulation became obsolete. However, the stamps of this year could be used until June 30, 2002. An exchange was possible until September 30th in the branches of the Deutsche Post , after that until June 30th, 2003 centrally in the Philately branch of Deutsche Post AG in Frankfurt.
