Holger Börnsen
Holger Helge Heinrich Börnsen (born October 15, 1931 in Hamburg ; † September 9, 2019 there ) was a German graphic artist , draftsman , painter and illustrator who, among other things, designed postage stamps for the Deutsche Bundespost .
Life
Holger Börnsen was born in 1931 as the son of John Börnsen (1892–1972), also Jonny (in the Hamburg address book also Jam ), and his wife Eva († 1984) in Tangstedter Landstrasse 225 in Hamburg-Langenhorn , where he grew up with three siblings . His father, later teacher taught drawing at the Lichtwark , including students Loki Glaser and Helmut Schmidt . He was introduced to art at an early age. After his primary school years from 1939 to 1943 at the Heerskamp School in Hamburg-Langenhorn, now the Fritz Schumacher School , from 1943 he attended the superstructure of the Ratsmühlendamm school in Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel . After graduating from school, an apprenticeship as a typesetter followed . From 1952 to 1956 he studied painting, free graphics with Alfred Mahlau and writing at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts .
After completing his studies, he started his own business as a commercial artist. In 1956 or 1957 he married the artist and ceramist Karin Yvonne Heerde and moved into an apartment with her in 1957 at Isestraße 6 in Hamburg-Harvestehude . From the late 1950s, he designed programs for the music event series, the new work of the NDR . According to an interview, he bought the row house Immenbarg 15 in Hamburg-Langenhorn in 1960 and moved in with his wife where he lived until his death.
He designed his first postage stamp as a result of a competition organized by the Deutsche Bundespost . Other stamp designs followed, not a few of which went into print from 1962 to 1992. He also created some drafts for first day covers and first day cancellations from his hand. He also held a teaching position at a “Hamburg University of Design” .
In May 1991 he created the first of a series of portrait drawings from Langenhorn personalities, which are included in his interview section Who is it? in the monthly magazine De Börner - Heimatblatt für Langenhorn and Ochsenzoll from the June / July 1991 issue. Since January 1958 the magazine was a merger of the settlement magazine De Börner of the Fritz-Schumacher-Siedlung and the magazine Heimatblatt für Langenhorn und Ochsenzoll . Over the years he has brought illustrations, articles and photos to the magazine. Today De Börner is again just a settlement magazine, while the homeland paper for Langenhorn and Ochsenzoll has been renamed Langenhorner Rundschau .
On his travels to Bornholm , Spain , Corsica , Paris , Mallorca and in the Allgäu he created many drawings and paintings , including sketches of landscapes, buildings, street scenes and faces. Painted ceramic works are also part of his oeuvre . The artist couple Börnsen have three daughters, one of whom lives in Corsica.
Holger Börnsen died on September 9, 2019 and was buried in close family circles in the Ohlsdorf cemetery. His urn grave is located south of Chapel 12.
Karin Börnsen was chairwoman of the Buddhist Society Hamburg eV for a while. It is very possible that Holger Börnsen was also a Buddhist . According to Buddhist teaching, a person's body consists of the five elements earth, water, fire, air and emptiness, which dissolve into one another in the process of dying. The five elements seem to be symbolized by the five objects on the grave: the earth by the largest stone, the water by the bluish stone, the fire by the sun, the air by the bird and the void by the hole in the stone the hole.
