Helper of humanity

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Helfer der Menschheit stamp series marked the beginning of the welfare stamps of the post-war Federal Republic of Germany and the Deutsche Bundespost . In the ten-year period, between 1949 and 1958, nine sets of four welfare stamps each were issued. While the first six sentences honored individual personalities, the last three sentences were more thematic: professions in medicine , mining and agriculture . From 1959 onwards, the Helfer der Menschheit (Helpers of Mankind) were replaced by the series Fairy Tales by the Brothers Grimm , however, on one stamp of this year there were portraits of the Brothers Grimm with the title Helfer der Menschheit , so that this brand set was both the “Helpers of Mankind” and the welfare stamps "fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm" counts.

In 1957 and 1958, at the same time, welfare stamps with the same motif were issued for the coal mining and agriculture series under the Oberpostdirektion of the federal state of Saarland . The stamps all bear the additional inscription Saarland , as well as values in F for Franc or Saar-Franconia .

The proceeds from the acceptance of the charity stamps go directly to charities.
