The postage stamp year 1951 of the Deutsche Bundespost comprised nine special stamps . In that year and at the beginning of 1952, the first definitive series of the Deutsche Bundespost Posthorn was issued based on a design by Georg Alexander Mathéy with 16 values.

This series is still one of the most sought after definitive stamps in the Federal Republic of Germany today (2008). The purchasing power of 1.00 DM today corresponds to around 2.61 euros.
