The postage stamps issued by the Deutsche Bundespost in 1970 comprised 34 special stamps and four definitive stamps . The definitive stamps were also issued by the Deutsche Bundespost Berlin . The complete 1970 stamp series was still available from Deutsche Post in 2012 .
That year began a new series of definitive stamps with the portrait of Federal President Gustav Heinemann ; 21 values (Berlin: 23) were issued over the years. It was the last series with the image of a Federal President.
All postage stamps issued since January 1, 1969 had unlimited postage validity and there was no expiration date as in previous years. With the introduction of the euro as a common European currency on January 1, 2002, this regulation became obsolete. However, the stamps of this year could be used until June 30, 2002. An exchange was possible until September 30th in the branches of the Deutsche Post , after that until June 30th, 2003 centrally in the Philately branch of Deutsche Post AG in Frankfurt.

Postage stamp forgery to the detriment of the Post
On April 15, 1970, mail appeared in Frankfurt am Main with an alleged postage stamp of the Federal Post Office, which honored the 100th birthday of WI Lenin (born April 22, 1870). The stamp is red / black and had a face value of 20 Pfennig and was produced in offset printing with a line perforation of 11. It is a forgery of postage which damages the post office. The Bundespost did not issue any such postage stamp. The forger could be found and was sentenced to a fine of 12,000 DM, which corresponds to about 21,621 euros due to inflation.
