Postage stamps issued in 1997 from the Federal Republic of Germany
The 1997 stamps issued by the Federal Republic of Germany comprised 60 special stamps as well as four definitive stamps from the Women of German History series and six stamps from the Sightseeing series . With a total of 70 postage stamps, this is one of the most extensive years, this should have mainly been due to the postage increase on September 1, 1997.
Originally, all stamps issued had unlimited postage validity . With the introduction of the euro as a common European currency on January 1, 2002, this regulation became obsolete.
However, the stamps of this year could be used until June 30, 2002. An exchange was possible until September 30th in the branches of the Deutsche Post , after that until June 30th 2003 centrally in the Philately branch of Deutsche Post AG in Frankfurt.
