Jan Lenica

Jan Lenica (born January 4, 1928 in Poznań , † October 5, 2001 in Berlin ) was a Polish graphic and postage stamp artist , also known internationally for his poster art .

Life

Jan Lenica studied architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology . After graduating, however, he became a graphic designer and one of the most famous poster artists in Poland. Together with Walerian Borowczyk he worked on his early animated films. In 1963 he went to France and lived there until 1986. In 1964, his works were shown at the documenta III in Kassel in the graphics department . From 1979 to 1985 he was professor for animation film at the Kassel Art College . He was a member of the Kassel School of Poster Art, Book and Magazine Graphics . Lenica was the first professor of this focus, founded in 1979. In 1986 he went to Berlin and was professor at the Berlin University of the Arts until 1994 . He used the technique of cut-out animation in his numerous films, including two feature-length works : Adam 2 (1968) and Ubu et la grande gidouille (1976, but did not appear in France until 1979).

Postage stamps

He worked as a stamp artist for the Deutsche Bundespost and Deutsche Post AG.
