The Hanessian Foreland is a comparatively flat and snow-covered peninsula on the Hobbs coast of the West Antarctic Marie Byrd Land . It extends seaward between Siniff Bay and the western end of the Getz Ice Shelf .
The United States Geological Survey mapped the peninsula on the basis of its own surveys and aerial photographs of the United States Navy between 1959 and 1965. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1975 after John Hanessian Jr. (1925–1974), political scientist from George Washington University , who of 1954 to 1958 as a staff member of the National Academy of Sciences made significant contributions to the polar research committee for the planning and implementation of the US program for the International Geophysical Year .
