history
The village of Hangen-Wahlheim (at times the spelling was Hangenwahlheim) was first mentioned in 768 as "Walaheimberge" in a document from the Lorsch Monastery . It was independent until May 25, 1800. From then on, it was administered under French occupation by the Mairie Alsheim in the canton of Bechtheim , which was part of the Donnersberg department . Hangen-Wahlheim was still given its own administrative powers. Due to the agreements reached at the Congress of Vienna in 1815 and a state treaty concluded in 1816 between the Grand Duchy of Hesse , the Empire of Austria and the Kingdom of Prussia , the region and thus also the hamlet came to the Grand Duchy of Hesse and was assigned to the province of Rheinhessen . After the dissolution of the Rhine-Hessian cantons, the place became part of the newly established Worms district in 1835 , to which it belonged until the Alzey-Worms district was founded in 1969.
