Life

Hanna Huzol led a Marxist group as a student and began studying sociology in Kiev in 2007 . In doing so, she came across August Bebel's basic work for gender equality, Die Frau und der Sozialismus , published in 1883 . To finance her studies, she worked temporarily as a tour manager for various Ukrainian rock groups, including as assistant to pop singer Tina Karol, and found that “people are still more interested in the color of the starlet's panties than in a conference on feminism. "

Femen

In 2008 Huzol founded the feminist group "Femen" with other students in Kiev . The activists of the organization were and are mainly young women. First dressed, then topless, Femen branded rampant sex tourism and pimping in Ukraine with the slogan “Ukraine is not a brothel” (Україна - не бордель!) And demanded that men who buy sexual services be punished should be. Femen quickly gained attention in the international media, carried out campaigns in various European countries and now has extensive international branches.

Escape from Ukraine

According to media reports, Hanna Huzol (like other Femen activists) has been repeatedly threatened by the Ukrainian secret service SBU . In November 2012, Russian security forces refused to allow her to enter Russia at Saint Petersburg 's Pulkovo Airport . Together with other activists from Femen, Huzol left Ukraine in August 2013 “out of fear for her life and her freedom”. She initially lived in Paris .

Application for political asylum in Switzerland

In October 2013 Hanna Huzol applied for asylum in Switzerland . " We fled Ukraine in September on a French visa, " said Huzol in an interview with the Tages-Anzeiger . Because she entered the Schengen area with a French visa from Ukraine , responsibility for the asylum procedure lies with the French authorities, stated the Federal Office for Migration (FOM) when the application was rejected in March 2014. Although Huzol's sister lives in Rorschach, the activist's chances of staying in Switzerland are slim; a family reunion was planned only for the "nuclear family" : " Actually, I just wanted to live with my sister, but that's obviously not possible ." Despite the negative decision by the BFM hopes the Far-founder to be able to stay in Switzerland; her lawyer appealed against the decision. She does not yet know whether she will return to her homeland if her request for reconsideration is rejected: “ Everyone advises me against it, it is too dangerous, ” and she does not believe that the situation in Ukraine will now improve, “ nationalism grows and the church grows stronger. "

During this time, Huzol lived in an asylum center in Busskirch . Léa Wertheimer, spokeswoman for the Federal Office for Migration (FOM), confirmed an article in the daily newspaper Südostschweiz that Huzol's request for reconsideration had been rejected and that she had to leave Rapperswil-Jona on this grounds. Until she was deported to France, she was housed in the Landegg asylum center near Rorschacherberg .
