Hannah New

Hannah New (born May 13, 1984 in Balham , London , England ) is a British actress and model . She is best known for the role of trader and smuggler Eleanor Guthrie in the television series Black Sails .

Life

New was born on May 13, 1984 in Balham, London, the youngest of three sisters. At the age of four she attended a ballet school. Later her interests shifted to acting and she attended the National Youth Theater. Her interest in other cultures led her to travel to more than 20 countries and, in 2003, to work for three months in a children's home in Bolivia . After returning to England, she studied English and Spanish at the University of Leeds . and appeared in various plays. Then New moved to Barcelona for three years , where she continued to study the Spanish language. There she completed a two-year “Meisner Technique Program” in the actors workshop.

She was discovered in Barcelona by the Spanish model agency View Management and worked as a model for print and advertising campaigns. Back in England, she studied at the Central School of Speech and Drama at the University of London , graduating with a Masters in December 2011.

New is fluent in Spanish and lives in London.

Career

Her television career began in Barcelona in 2009 when she was discovered by Stacey Castro during auditions for the television series The Borgias .

During her studies at the Central School of Speech and Drama, she was offered several roles in Spanish productions, including the adaptation of the novella El Tiempo Entre Costuras (English title The Time in Between ) by María Dueñas. In it she played Rosalinda Fox, a young Englishwoman, the lover of Juan Luis Beigbeder and friend of Sira Quiroga.

After graduating from the Central School of Speech and Drama, New had her first role in an American production in Shelter , a Warner Bros. and CW Network pilot that was produced by JJ Abrams .

In 2013 she was cast in the pirate series Black Sails on the US television channel Starz . She plays Eleanor Guthrie, who runs her father's illegal trade in Nassau.

In the Disney film Maleficent - The Dark Fairy , New played Queen Leila, the mother of Princess Aurora. The film was released in May 2014.

New was given a lead role in the real-life thriller Under the Bed . In it she plays a young woman who tries to get over a breakup while a stalker befriends her on social networks. Filming began in August 2014 and the English language premiere took place in 2017.
