For this reason, the company founded a subsidiary, Hannover Leasing Investment GmbH, which in March 2014 received permission from the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) to operate as a capital management company (KVG).
The main shareholders of Hannover Leasing in 2013 were Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen Girozentrale with 49.34 percent and Hessisch-Thüringische Sparkassen-Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH with 48.00 percent. Another shareholder was the former managing director Friedrich Wilhelm Patt with 2.66 percent.

In December 2016, Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen and the Sparkassen- und Giroverband Hessen-Thüringen announced that they would sell 95 percent of their shares to Corestate Holding in Luxembourg .
After approval by BaFin in June 2017, Corestate took over 94.9 percent of the shares in Hannover Leasing. Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen remained a minority shareholder with 5.1 percent of the shares.

criticism
The tax authorities suspected tax evasion in eight of the 14 film funds operated by Hannover Leasing (HL) . This affects 7,500 investors who have invested just under a billion euros in these funds. However, with the decision of the Munich Finance Court on December 19, 2013, the allegations were rejected and the tax structure on which the film fund was based was recognized.
In the dispute are also the investors 'back taxes in the millions, about which a final decision has not yet been made, nor about the investors' claims for damages against Hannover Leasing because of these allegations. More than 600 civil lawsuits, including dunning proceedings, with a total value in dispute of approx. 121 million euros are pending before the civil courts in Germany from investors in Hannover Leasing's media funds, which are directed or have directed against companies of the Hannover Leasing Group (as of May 29, 2012 ).
