Hans-Albrecht Lehmann

Hans-Albrecht Lehmann (born February 6, 1894 in Metz ; † November 27, 1976 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ) was a German officer , most recently major general in World War II .

Life

Lehmann joined Telegraph Battalion No. 2 on August 28, 1911 as a flag squire and was promoted to lieutenant on January 27, 1913 . With the outbreak of the First World War , he served as platoon leader in the telegraph battalion of VI. Reserve Corps . After the end of the war he resigned from the army as a first lieutenant (from April 18, 1918) and joined the police on February 1, 1920. Here he worked in Berlin until he joined the army on October 15, 1935 .

He was first used as the commander of the 1st communications battalion and promoted to lieutenant colonel on January 1, 1937 . As such, on April 1, 1938, he was appointed commander of intelligence forces I in Königsberg .

Before the start of the Second World War, he gave up command again on August 26, 1939 and then served as news leader of the 16th Army until May 1, 1943 . In this capacity Lehmann had become a colonel on January 1, 1940 . For a short time he was then news leader of Army Group E until September 1, and at the same time he was promoted to Major General, he was then Higher News Leader of Army Group F. In this role, with the unconditional surrender of the Wehrmacht , he became a prisoner of war in the United States , from which he was in June 1947 was released.
