Hans-Georg Betz

Hans-Georg Betz (* 1956 ) is a German political scientist .

Life

Betz graduated from the University of Texas at Austin (BA) and earned a Ph.D. in Political Science from MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 1988 he became an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and later at Loyola University Chicago in Rome. He was then Associate Professor of European Studies at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University in Washington, DC and Koç Üniversitesi in Istanbul, and for Political Science at York University in Toronto, Canada. In 1998 he was a visiting fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna. Most recently, he was Senior Research Associate at the Canadian Center for German and European Studies (CCGES) at York University, Visiting Professor at the University of Geneva and Adjunct Professor at the University of Zurich .

Betz researched intensively and widely on “radical right-wing populism ” in Western Europe. He has published books and articles in anthologies and specialist journals such as Brown Journal of World Affairs , Aus Politik und Zeitgeschichte , West European Politics , International Journal , Party Politics , Theory, Culture & Society , Austrian Journal for Political Science , Comparative Political Studies , German Politics , Patterns of Prejudice , Politique et Societes , Review of Politics , Democracy and Security and New German Critique . He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Yearbook for Research on Islamophobia .

He is u. a. Member of the American Political Science Association ; In 2000 he took part in the Bilderberg Conference .

Betz lives in Nyon in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.
