Hans-Jürgen Jacobs

Hans-Jürgen Jacobs (born April 6, 1936 in Parchim ; † December 9, 2019 ) was a German production engineer and former rector of the Technical University of Dresden .

After graduating from high school, Hans-Jürgen Jacobs studied mechanical engineering from 1955 to 1961 at what was then the Technical University of Dresden . He then worked there as a research assistant and senior assistant. After receiving his doctorate in 1966 as a Dr.-Ing. and the PhD B to Dr.sc.techn. In 1970 at the TU Dresden he was a research group leader from 1970 to 1971 at the research center of the Fritz Heckert machine tool combine in Karl-Marx-Stadt . From 1971 to 1991 he was a full professor for production technology and production design at the TU Dresden. After exercising other university functions at the TU Dresden, including dean of the mechanical engineering faculty, he became rector of the university in 1986. He held this office until 1990. After 1990 he was a partner and project consultant for various companies.

In 1987 Jacobs received the GDR national prize “for his share in exemplary solutions for computer-aided production preparation and automated production in mechanical engineering”. In 1989 he was elected a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR .

From 1993 he was a member of the learned society Leibniz Society of Sciences in Berlin .
