Life

Raabe was a student of the Kiel theater photographer Erika Haendler-Krah (1893–1979). As a photographer, he mainly devoted himself to black and white photography in the 1980s, which resulted in the illustrated books Berlin Graffiti (1982) and Schöneberg (1984). At the same time he worked as a journalist for various print media, including Bunte and Bild .

Since around 2010 he has devoted himself to photography again. Since then, portraits and stills have been the focus of his photographic work.

Raabe lives in Salzburg , where he works as managing director of Raabe Vermögensverwaltungs GmbH, which he founded in June 2013, and as a photographer.

Controversy

Raabe hit the headlines in the 1990s when it became known that, as a pharmaceutical journalist , he had praised nutritional supplements in editorial articles in return for a fee and a share of the turnover . In a report by Der Spiegel magazine with the headline The Bought Journalist , Raabe was described as the “prototype of this surreptitious advertiser so valued by the industry”. According to this, he wrote of various preparations and products as “amazing healing powers” in his texts, some of them on the first page of the Bild newspaper . As early as 1993, the German Press Council had criticized a Raabe article about a vitamin preparation in Bild der Frau . According to Spiegel magazine , the hallmark of these products was that they had a high price, low material value and a dubious effect. Furthermore, Raabe's annual fee was given as "easy at a few hundred thousand marks". A Bavarian pharmaceutical and diet entrepreneur also testified that Raabe had received a ten percent commission on sales from her for “courtesy items in the colorful, about 1.3 million marks”.
