Hans-Joachim Berg (born December 25, 1948 in Rehren (Auetal) ) is a German politician ( CDU , AfD ).

Life

Berg studied law and works as a lawyer in Berlin ; previously he worked in the Bundestag administration . He was a department head at Deutsche Welle .

Berg was a CDU member for more than 30 years. Among other things, he was Alfred Dregger's personal advisor .

Berg left the CDU in March 2013 and joined the Alternative for Germany (AfD). With the founding of the Steglitz-Zehlendorfer district association, he took over the chairmanship of the AfD district association in Berlin with the largest number of members until December 2016. In the election for the Berlin House of Representatives in 2016 , he moved into the Berlin House of Representatives . Since February 2017, Berg has been running a parliamentary office in Lankwitz together with Andreas Wild , who was excluded from the AfD parliamentary group a few months later . He was one of the deputy chairmen of the AfD Berlin . After the election fraud in the election of the Berlin AfD state executive in January 2016, Berg managed the proceedings before the arbitration tribunal for the party leadership.

For the 2017 federal election , Berg ran in sixth place on the AfD state list and missed entry into the Bundestag . According to Tagesspiegel , he was "in party circles" as a "big loser" at the nomination party conference. A little later, Berg resigned as a direct candidate for the Berlin-Steglitz - Zehlendorf constituency . On October 17, 2017, Berg was appointed leader of the AfD parliamentary group . On December 14th, at the instigation of parliamentary group leader Alice Weidel, he was demoted because of the 'sandwich affair'. At the beginning of 2018, the AfD announced that he had terminated his employment contract with the parliamentary group on February 5. The reason he gave for this was that there were forces on the board of the AfD parliamentary group who had a different understanding of the structure of a professional parliamentary group and who assessed the demands on his office differently.

Berg was assigned to the party's national conservative wing in 2017 .

Berg is married and has two children.
