Hans-Joachim Brauske (born October 12, 1943 in Lauchhammer , usually called Achim Brauske ) is a former German boxer . He was the winner of the bronze medal at the 1971 European Middleweight Championship in Madrid .

Career

Brauske started boxing when he was twelve with SC activist Lauchhammer . He came to SC Chemie Halle in 1968 through SC activist Brieske-Senftenberg and SC Cottbus . As a senior, Brauske boxed light heavyweight (up to 81 kg body weight). After moving to SC Chemie Halle, he switched to middleweight (up to 75 kg body weight).

Brauske's sporting success began in 1963 with a 3rd place in the GDR light heavyweight championship behind Bruno Wittkowski from SC Dynamo Berlin and Grönke from Motor Babelsberg . On October 20, 1963 he was used for the first time in an international match. He fought in Poznań against the multiple European champion Zbigniew Pietrzykowski , one of the best amateur boxers in the world of those years, and was defeated on points. Two years later, in 1965, he won the GDR runner-up in the light heavyweight division. In the final he was defeated by Jürgen Schlegel from SC Traktor Schwerin , who became one of his main competitors in the following years.

In 1966 Brauske was the first time GDR light heavyweight champion, where he defeated Grönke on points in the final. Also in 1967 he was GDR light heavyweight champion by winning points over Jürgen Schlegel. At the European Championships this year in Rome he had Lospech, because he met the exceptional Soviet boxer Danas Pozniakas (Dan Pozniak) in the first round , against whom he had to be taken out of the fight in the third round.

At the GDR championship in 1968 Brauske started for the last time in the light heavyweight division. In the final he faced Jürgen Schlegel again, who won this time and relegated Brauske to 2nd place. Jürgen Schlegel was also used at the Olympic Games in Mexico City . Brauske had to stay at home. He won the middleweight division at the Honved Cup in Budapest by winning points over the Hungarian Szegeti.

Brauske was not discouraged by missing a starting place at the 1968 Olympic Games and in 1969 won his fourth GDR championship title. In the middleweight division he won ahead of Wolfgang Vielhauer from ASK Vorwärts Berlin and Peter Urbach from Erfurt . At the TSC tournament in Berlin he celebrated victories over W. Abramowitsch from the USSR, Edmund Hebel from Poland and Juttke, GDR and won this tournament.

In 1970 Brauske again won the East German middleweight championship, his fifth. In the final he defeated Ingo Zimpel from SC Magdeburg . At the “Chemistry Cup” in Halle (Saale), which was held for the first time, he won the final on points over the Finn Pertti Kaijalaakso. In 1971 Brauske did not start in the GDR championship. He was used at the European Middleweight Championships in Madrid . There he defeated Otto Gerlic from Yugoslavia in the second round on points and defeated Alan Minter from England in the quarterfinals with the same result. In the semifinals he was defeated by the Soviet boxer Juozas Juocevičius and won an EM bronze medal .

In 1972 Brauske was beaten at the GDR middleweight championship by Bernd Wittenburg from SC Dynamo Berlin . After his victory at the 3rd Chemistry Cup in Halle in May 1972, he was delegated to the Olympic Games . Brauske defeated the Sudanese Abdalla Abdelwahib Salih in the first round with a 3-2 judge's vote. In his next fight he met the Soviet athlete Vyacheslav Lemeschew , who dominated the middleweight class in the world at that time and was defeated by this after a good performance on points. It was no longer possible to win a medal. Lemeschew then sovereignly won the gold medal .

Brauske ended his career as an active boxer after the Olympic Games in Munich. He began studying at the German University for Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig, which he completed as a certified sports teacher. From 1973 to 1979 he was a top trainer at SC Chemie Halle and from 1979 was a university teacher at the DHfK. He was mainly responsible for training top boxers from the GDR. After 1991 he was a coach at the newly founded SV Halle .
