Hans-Joachim Eick (born June 1, 1925 in Leipzig , † April 4, 1980 in Cape Town ) was a German ambassador .

Life

Hans-Joachim Eick's father was an officer in the Reichswehr . From 1948 to 1954, Hans-Joachim Eick studied forest science and economics in Göttingen and Zurich . From 1954 to 1957 he was assistant to the commission for international university questions. In 1957 he joined the foreign service . In 1958 he took the attaché examination. In 1959 he was accredited at the Consulate General in Amsterdam . From 1959 to 1961 Hans-Joachim Eick was at the embassy in Moscow . From 1961 he headed the Consulate General in Salisbury, Rhodesia . From 1963 to 1966 he was at the embassy in Tokyo . From 1966 to 1969 he was Jürgen Ruhfus ' deputy , as spokesman for the Foreign Office. From 1971 to 1973 Hans-Joachim Eick headed the personnel department of the Foreign Office and from 1973 to 1976 a sub-department of the Foreign Office. Then Eick was German ambassador to South Africa from 1976 to 1980.
