Hans-Joachim Krusch (historian)

Hans-Joachim Krusch (born October 29, 1935 in Breslau ; † February 20, 2004 ) was a German historian . He mainly worked on the labor movement in the early Weimar Republic , on the Kapp Putsch and on the forced unification of the KPD and SPD to form the SED .

life and work

After moving from Silesia , Krusch first completed an apprenticeship and attended the workers and farmers faculty in Leipzig . He then studied history at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig with Ernst Engelberg , Walter Markov and Josef Schleifstein . From 1958 to 1990 he worked at the Institute for Marxism-Leninism at the Central Committee of the SED in East Berlin . He received his doctorate there in December 1964 under Eberhard Wächtler and Horst Naumann on "The struggle of miners and other workers under the leadership of the KPD in the Zwickau-Oelsnitz coalfield from the end of 1922 until the fall of the Cuno government" and was from 1969 to 1977 Sector head in the institute. In 1971 he received his PhD B with Ernst Diehl and Günter Benser with a work presented together with Erwin Könnemann on the Kapp Putsch .

From 1978 to 1989 Krusch was deputy head of department at the institute and from September 1985 also a full professor. In 1985 he received the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze. From 1989 he was a member of the Presidium of the Historians' Society of the GDR . In 1990 he became a research assistant at the Institute for the History of the Labor Movement in Berlin. His position was closed in late 1990. Krusch received retirement benefit and had been a pensioner since 1995.

At the end of the 1990s, Krusch was a member of the Marxist Forum at the PDS . From 1992 to 2004 he was spokesman for the Marxist working group on the history of the workers' movement at the PDS. After a serious illness he died in 2004 and is buried in the St. Bartholomäus churchyard.
