Hans-Peter Krüger (philosopher)

Hans-Peter Krüger (born March 18, 1954 in Potsdam ) is a German philosopher .

Krüger holds the Chair for Political Philosophy and Philosophical Anthropology at the University of Potsdam and is the spokesman for the DFG Graduate School Life Forms and Life Knowledge. He is also one of the editors of the German Journal for Philosophy and was President of the Helmuth Plessner Society for the promotion of philosophical anthropology.

Life

Hans-Peter Krüger studied philosophy at the Humboldt University in Berlin from 1972 to 1976 and received his doctorate there in 1980 on the philosophical development of the young Hegel . Since 1981 at the Institute for Theory, History and Organization of the science of Academy of Sciences of the GDR scientifically active in Berlin, he habilitated there in 1987 with the magazine "criticism of communicative reason." In September 1989 he was appointed professor of philosophy of science appointed.

After a research stay at the University of California, Berkeley in autumn 1989, he was a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin in the academic year 1990–91 and a fellow at the Center for Philosophy of Science at the University of Pittsburgh from 1992–93 . From 1994–95 he worked as the deputy head of the Center for the History and Theory of Science of the Max Planck subsidiary Scientific New Projects in Berlin. Since 1996 he has been a full professor of practical philosophy at the University of Potsdam . In addition, from 1996 to 2000 he headed the working group on scientific cultures in the communication process, financed by the Max Planck Society . Several guest professorships followed , first in 2002 at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow , then in 2003 at the University of Vienna . In 2005/06 Hans-Peter Krüger was Ernst Cassirer visiting professor at the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Studies in Uppsala / Sweden .

From 2005 to 2011 he was president of the “Helmuth Plessner Society” and has been a member of the scientific advisory board since 2011. In addition, since 2009 he has also been the spokesman for the "DFG Graduate School Life Forms and Life Knowledge" at the University of Potsdam.

Research priorities

The main focus of Hans-Peter Krüger's scientific work lies in the political philosophy of the public, in philosophical anthropology, in social philosophy and the limits of the theories of action that concern work and communication , as well as in the classical and neo-pragmatisms .
