Hans-Reinhard Koch (born November 27, 1929 in Leinefelde ; † April 25, 2018 in Erfurt ) was auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Erfurt .

Life

Hans-Reinhard Koch, the third child of the dentist Adolf Koch and the housewife Maria Koch , studied Catholic theology at the theological faculty in Fulda , at the Erfurt seminary and in the Neuzelle monastery . He was ordained a deacon on March 27, 1955 and received the sacrament of ordination from Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Freusberg on July 17, 1955 and then worked as a chaplain in Nordhausen . In 1959 he became a parish curate in Kölleda . In 1965, Bishop Hugo Aufderbeck was called to sub-rain at the Erfurt seminary. In 1969 he became a full professor and worked in Erfurt as a personnel officer in the Episcopal Office of Erfurt-Meiningen . From 1983 he also worked as a cathedral priest at Erfurt Cathedral .

On May 15, 1985 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Mediana and ordered him Auxiliary Bishop of the Apostolic Administrator of Erfurt, Meiningen. He received his episcopal ordination on July 6, 1985 by the Apostolic Administrator, Bishop Joachim Wanke ; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops Wolfgang Weider ( Diocese of Berlin ) and Norbert Werbs ( Episcopal Office Schwerin ). His episcopal motto was: Illum oportet crescere . With the elevation of the episcopal office to the diocese of Erfurt, Hans-Reinhard Koch became the first auxiliary bishop of the new foundation.

After reaching the age of 75 on November 27, 2004, Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation as auxiliary bishop.

In 2010, the Thuringian Prime Minister Christine Lieberknecht awarded him the Order of Merit of the Free State of Thuringia . In 2009 he was awarded the bread plate , the highest award of the German Caritas Association.

As a result of a fall, he died on April 25, 2018 in the Helios Clinic in Erfurt , and he was buried in the cloister of the Erfurt Cathedral.
