Hans-Ulrich Brand (born February 22, 1930 in Koethen ) is a German lawyer and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending primary school and graduating from high school in 1949, Brand completed a traineeship at a coffee importing company in Hamburg in 1949/50 . He then began studying law and political science at the University of Hamburg , which he completed in 1954 with the first state examination in law. In 1952 he became active in the Corps Albertina Hamburg.

He completed his legal clerkship in large companies in the mineral oil industry and in administration. 1958 doctorate he attended the University of Hamburg Dr. iur. In 1959 he passed the assessor examination . He then worked as an attorney's assistant and after his admission as an independent lawyer in Pinneberg . In 1960 he was appointed a notary.

Hans-Ulrich Brand is married and has two children.

politics

Brand joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in 1956. He was councilor of the city of Pinneberg since 1959 , was elected chairman of the SPD parliamentary group there in 1962 and was also the city's first deputy mayor. In 1969 he was elected chairman of the SPD local association Pinneberg. His political field of activity mainly included environmental policy. In 1959 he was chairman of the Schleswig-Holstein state committee of the organization Kampf dem Atomtod . In the Bundestag election in 1969 , Brand was elected to the German Bundestag . He won a direct mandate for the Bundestag constituency Pinneberg .

In the autumn of 1970, the Itzehoe regional court initiated proceedings against Brand based on statements made by Wedel local politicians. Allegedly he “forced” the city of Wedel to issue a building permit “by abusing his position as a member of the Bundestag”. Out of resignation over the behavior of local politicians, Brand resigned his Bundestag mandate on November 3, 1970. In 1971 the case against him was dropped. The behavior of the local politicians and the publications of the newspapers Bild , Deutsche National-Zeitung and other local newspapers were reprimanded in the regional court's written justification .
