Hans-Werner Bussmann

Hans-Werner Bussmann (born December 27, 1949 in Stuttgart ) is a German diplomat and has been Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Cape Town since 2009 .

Life

After graduating from high school and completing military service from 1968 to 1969 in the armed forces, Bussmann studied law from 1970 to 1974 at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen , which he completed in 1974 with the first state examination in law. During his studies, he attended the summer course in international law at the Hague Academy of International Law in 1972 and a course in common law at the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1973 . After doing his legal clerkship in Stuttgart, Tübingen and Braunschweig from 1975 to 1977 , he passed the second state examination in 1977 and was then an officially appointed representative of a lawyer and notary .

In 1978 Bussmann joined the Foreign Service and, after completing his career test for the higher service, was employed from 1980 to 1983 as a legation counselor and advisor for domestic affairs and head of the cultural department at the embassy in Yugoslavia . Subsequently, until 1986 he was first class councilor and advisor in the department for general personnel matters in the central department of the Foreign Office in Bonn and then between 1986 and 1990 permanent representative of the ambassador and head of the department for economic and development cooperation at the embassy in Zimbabwe .

Bussmann was then from 2000 to 2003 as Counselor First Class Permanent Representative of the Ambassador and Head of the Political Department of the Embassy in South Africa and then Commissioner for the International Criminal Court and Head of the ICC Task Force of the Foreign Office in Berlin , before becoming envoy between 2006 and 2009 Permanent representative of the Ambassador and Head of the Political Department of the Embassy in Egypt .

Since August 2009, Hans-Werner Bussmann has been Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Cape Town and thus in South Africa responsible for the Eastern, Northern and Western Cape as well as St. Helena and other British subsidiary areas.
