Hans Achenbach (artist)
Wilhelm Ludwig Hans Achenbach (born March 3, 1891 in Ohle ; † August 28, 1972 in Siegen ) was a German painter , graphic artist , draftsman , wood cutter , illustrator and bookplate artist .
Life
Hans Achenbach was the second son of Caspar Gustav Achenbach (1858-1915), who in 1889 with Ludwig Kölsche founded the Ohler Eisenwerk Achenbach, Kölsche & Co. , which was taken over in 1895 by Theobald Pfeiffer, the father of Walter Pfeiffer . His mother was Katharina Emilie Bertha Schneider (1865–1944). Together with his parents he came to Siegen, where he attended secondary school.
From 1909 to 1912 he studied at the Royal Prussian Art Academy in Düsseldorf and at the associated arts and crafts school in Wuppertal . Then he worked in Munich . After taking part in the First World War , he returned home and married the painter Hanna Achenbach , née Junemann, on November 25, 1920 in Düsseldorf - Eller , with whom he had two daughters. From 1933 to 1937 he headed the hand-weaving workshop of the municipal vocational and technical school for girls in Siegen.
Achenbach was known for his monotypes with animal motifs and the representation of the Haubergswirtschaft of the Siegerland . He drew for the magazine "Siegerland", contributed illustrations for the "Siegerland Heimatkalender" and illustrated the 1948 edition of Joseph von Eichendorff's Eine Meerfahrt published by the Jung Stilling Foundation .
