Hans Battermann
Hans Battermann (born June 20, 1860 in Bückeburg , † June 15, 1922 in Blankenburg ) was a German astronomer .
Life
After graduating from high school Adolfinum Bückeburg studied Battermann from 1877 Astronomy at the Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Berlin and received his doctorate in 1881 for Dr. phil. After a year and a half at the Deutsche Seewarte in Hamburg, he was a computer at the Reich Commission for the observation of the passage of Venus from 1883 to 1888 .
After nine months at the Göttingen observatory , he returned for the second time to the Berlin observatory, where he became an observer in 1891 . He worked on the Berlin meridian circle and studied star occultations .
On April 1, 1904, the Albertus University appointed him director of the Königsberg observatory , whose international reputation was established by Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel . After suffering a stroke in 1916/17, Battermann resigned from the honorable position on March 31, 1919 and moved with his wife and cousin Anna, nee. from Michalkowski, to Blankenburg.
