Hans Brasch (born April 2, 1882 in Karlsruhe , † May 13, 1973 in Murrhardt near Stuttgart ) was a German painter and representative of Expressionism .

Life

Hans Brasch studied at the School of Applied Arts and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe with Ludwig Schmid-Reutte and Friedrich Fehr . 1904–1908 he was a master student of Hans Thoma , followed by study trips to Paris and Geneva with Ferdinand Hodler . From 1913 the artist lived in Frankfurt am Main and later served as a soldier in the First World War. From 1920 he moved to St. Blasien and in 1930 he finally settled in Stuttgart .

Act

Brasch specialized in portraits, but also painted flower pictures, mountain and forest landscapes in clear forms and expressive colors. From his time in St. Blasien he began to paint primarily in watercolor. In the Third Reich, Brasch's work was defamed as " degenerate " and his pictures were confiscated. One of his characteristic works, which is also very effective in public, is the painting of the historic reception hall of the Orber train station from 1925/1926. In the large-scale painting on all four sides of the hall , the seasons , the Orber healing springs and the typical professions of the Orber citizens are symbolically represented.
