Hans Commenda junior

Hans Commenda (born February 5, 1889 in Linz , † January 25, 1971 there ) was a local researcher and is considered the most important Upper Austrian folk music collector and researcher.

Live and act

Commenda attended the Academic Gymnasium in Linz and passed his matriculation examination in 1907, after which he studied philosophy in Vienna and Dijon . After receiving his doctorate in 1911, he acquired the qualification to teach German, French and Latin in 1912. At first he was employed at the State Realschule in Steyr , from 1919 to 1936 at the State Realschule in Linz, and in 1936 he was appointed director of the Bundesrealgymnasium Linz. In 1945 he was appointed Federal Public Education Officer for Upper Austria; he held this office until his retirement at the end of 1954.

Commenda was a co-founder of the Austrian Folk Song Society , where he worked for around fifty years, and from 1946 to 1954 chairman of the Stelzhamer Association .

A street in Linz-Dornach ( St. Magdalena ) has been named after him since 1972 .
