Hans Edvard Nørregård-Nielsen

Hans Edvard Nørregård-Nielsen (born January 2, 1945 in Sønder Nissum ) is a Danish journalist , art historian , art critic and writer who was awarded the Søren Gyldendal Prize in 1986 .

Life

After attending school, Nørregård-Nielsen studied art history and graduated in 1976 with a master's degree . During his studies he became a journalist in 1971 and worked as an art critic for the daily newspaper Dagbladet Information until 1978 . He then became inspector of the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen , before he became chairman of the board of directors of the Carlsberg Foundation and the board of the Glyptothek in 1988 .

In addition to these activities, he wrote numerous specialist books in which he dealt in particular with baroque architecture and the Golden Age , the epoch of cultural heyday in Denmark between 1800 and 1850. On the other hand, he was also interested in contemporary art and wrote books about artists such as Arne Haugen Sørensen .

One of his early major works was a two-volume presentation of Danish art, which appeared in 1983 under the title Dansk kunst in a non-fiction and a biography volume . In 1986 he was honored with the Søren Gyldendal Prize for this work in particular. In his book Jeg saae det Land (1990) he described the sketches of Hans Christian Andersen's trip to Italy . In 1993 he received the NL Høyen Medaljen from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts . In 1996 one of his other major works, Christen Købke , appeared, a three-volume biography of the painter Christen Købke with a title.

At the end of the 1990s, Nørregård-Nielsen began to publish his memoirs , which appeared in the three volumes Mands minde (1999), Riber ret (2001) and Noget nær (2004). In it he described not only his personal and social origins, but also happy and painful experiences of love in the Danish provinces. In 1999 he received the Weekendavisens litteraturpris for Mands Minde , the reader's award from the Danish weekly newspaper Weekendavisen .

In 2002 he published a three-volume story of the Ny Carlsbergfondet 1902-2002 , in which he not only described his longstanding work for the foundation , but also outlined its importance for the promotion of Danish culture and art in the 20th century .

Herfra hvor vi står - Danmark under forvandling was last published in 2010 . In three volumes, the landscape of Denmark and its changes up to 2009 are presented based on the pictures by 14 photographers , whereby the photographs become a cultural cross-section of modern Denmark through his foreword and numerous essays . He was awarded the Prize for the essay of 2011 for this Gyldendal - publisher excellent.

In 2002 he became an honorary member of the Danish Academy of Fine Arts. In 2010 he was also appointed Commander of the Dannebrog Order .
