Hans Eick (trade unionist)

Hans Eick (born March 11, 1906 in Frankfurt am Main ; died April 1, 1979 there ) was a German trade union official and local politician .

The trained locksmith joined the German Metalworkers' Association as early as 1920 . He worked there as a cashier, shop steward and works council member. In 1922 he joined the SPD . What was unusual for a union official was that he passed the master craftsman's examination as a mechanic at the Wiesbaden Chamber of Crafts in 1926 and then began studying at the Academy of Labor (AdA) in Frankfurt am Main in 1929. Due to the takeover of the Nazis , he was excluded from the 1933 study by dismissal. After the resulting unemployment and the Second World War , he worked actively from 1945 onwards to rebuild the trade unions in Hesse .

From 1948 to 1952 he was city councilor of the SPD parliamentary group and from 1952 to 1977 honorary city councilor of the city of Frankfurt am Main, where he a. a. the department of the city ​​cleaning was subordinate. After a visit to Lausanne , he campaigned to build a waste incineration plant on the outskirts of the north-west town, which is still in operation by FES GmbH today.

Meanwhile, from 1949 he was head of the IG Metall district of Frankfurt am Main, from 1950 district manager for Hesse and from 1968 to 1971 chief cashier of IG Metall. He leads numerous collective bargaining .

In 1975 he was awarded the plaque of honor of the city of Frankfurt am Main .

In the Bockenheim district of his hometown, the Hans-Eick-Weg is named after him.
