biography

The early years

Engel began his professional career as a projectionist at the Pichler-Kino (later the Olympia-Kino) in Baden near Vienna , before he was hired in 1924 by the US film company United Artists as their company representative in Austria. After 1930 Engel worked in the same capacity for another Hollywood company, Universal Studios . In 1937 he took over the Star-Film GmH together with Karl Zuckerberg. In 1945 Hans Engel was appointed director of Sascha-Film , and since 1952 he has worked as a production manager and independent film producer.

As a film producer

Angel came in 1955 with the regional film drama The Girl from the parsonage of Alfred Lehner where Waltraut Haas , Erich Auer and Franziska Kinz played the leading roles, first as a producer in appearance. The production company was Zenith-Filmproduktion Lehner & Co. (Vienna). Engel also worked again with Lehner and his production company in his next film, the comedy Bademeister Spargel (1956), starring Paul Hörbiger , Angelika Hauff and again Franziska Kinz. Engel also worked as a producer for Lehner's homeland film Die Magd von Heiligenblut (1956) with Alice Graf in the title role and Erich Auer and Eduard Köck . In the Austrian-Swiss Heimatfilm Der König der Bernina (1957) the constellation with Lehner and the Zenith film production was again the same. There was a reunion with Waltraut Haas, who played the leading role alongside Helmuth Schneider . Erich Auer was also there. The last film listed for Engel is the crime comedy When the Bomb Burst by EW Emo from 1958. The main actors were Oskar Sima , Rudolf Platte , Hans Richter and Wera Frydtberg .

Lehner's career, with which Engel - except for his last film - had always worked together, came to an end in 1961, and at the same time Engel no longer appeared.
