Hans Engl

Hans Engl (born October 12, 1944 in Waakirchen ) is a German alpinist and high-altitude mountaineer .

Life

Engl climbed as members of an expedition of Karl Herrligkoffer on 14 October 1978 as the first German and the third climber to Habeler and Messner the Mount Everest without bottled oxygen .

In August 1979, Engl climbed Denali in Alaska.

In the summer of 1982, Engl accepted Pierre Mazeaud's invitation and climbed Nanga Parbat . Hans Engl was the only participant in the French expedition to reach the summit alone on July 14, 1982.

In 1984 , Minya Konka , located in China , followed together with Gerhard Schmatz . In 1988 he climbed the Cho Oyu in Tibet with Schmatz and two other expedition participants in the so-called alpine style .

In February 1992, Engl climbed the 4,897-meter-high Carstensz pyramid in New Guinea twice in a row with various rope partners .

In addition, Engl was involved in two expeditions to South Georgia . Both expeditions arrived in a sailing boat from Ushuaia . Despite several alpine successes, the first of the two expeditions could not reach the summit of Mount Paget in 1991 . Instead, the first ascent of the 1,238 meter high Mount Normann was successful. It was not until the second expedition that they reached Mount Paget on January 26, 1995, the highest mountain in South Georgia at 2934 meters, as the fourth expedition ever.

In 1999, Hans Engl was on the road with Gerhard Schmatz, as on the two South Georgia expeditions and the New Zealand expedition. From Ushuaia they sailed towards Antarctica . On January 29, 1999 they reach the summit of Mount Scott .

The trained carpenter and trained mountain guide lives in Waakirchen in the Miesbach district .
