Hans Eschelbach

Hans Eschelbach (born February 16, 1868 in Bonn , † March 14, 1948 in Innsbruck ) was a German writer .

Life

Hans Eschelbach was the son of a carpenter . He attended the teachers' seminar in Brühl and initially worked as a teacher in Merten near Bonn and from 1892 to 1906 in Cologne . He then lived as a freelance writer and reciter in Bonn. Eschelbach made numerous trips to Europe and the Middle East .

Hans Eschelbach's work includes novels , short stories , poetry and dramas . During the author's lifetime, his narrative works from school life and biblical history enjoyed great popularity; many of his poems were set to music .

He belonged to the group of authors and writers who, on behalf of the Cologne chocolate producer Ludwig Stollwerck, worked on the literary design of the Stollwerck collector's pictures and scrapbooks. Other authors were the poet Theresa Gröhe geb. Pauli-Greiffenberg, alias "T.Resa", the zoologist Prof. Paul Matschie , the journalist Julius Rodenberg , the writer Joseph von Lauff , the poet Carl Hermann Busse , the novelist Gustav Falke , the poet Anna Ritter a . v. a. m.

Married to Toni Eyck for the second time , they had a daughter, the actress Toni van Eyck . Rejected by the National Socialists because of his deeply Catholic work, they moved to Fraxern in Vorarlberg . They are buried in Götzis .

Forum Eschelbach

The "Forum Eschelbach" was founded in Fraxern (Vorarlberg) in 2018. The primary goal of the association is to review and maintain the life's work of the Bonn writer Hans Eschelbach (1868 - 1948) and to promote the new edition of his around 50 books.

Hans Eschelbach Path

The 4300-meter-long memorial path in honor of the writer, initiated by the Forum Eschelbach association , is constantly being further developed with public funds and private sponsors. The "Hans Eschelbach Path" leads from the Austrian market town of Götzis to the town of Fraxern.

A play by Hans Eschelbach - words and values. Open your mouth for minors was premiered on November 10, 2018 by and with Friederike Pöhlmann-Grießinger and Roland Eugen Beiküfner in Fraxern. The play deals with the life and work of Eschelbach in three acts. The plot of the play: A historian and a German and religion teacher meet in order to find a worthy winner for the newly announced “Veritas Literature Prize”. After a short discussion, the two decide in favor of Eschelbach. An actor is invited to perform texts by Eschelbach. In the last act of the play, the Eschelbach Literature Prize is awarded posthumously.
