Hans Fackelmann (also Johann , born November 24, 1933 in Macea , Kingdom of Romania ; † July 30, 1979 in Timișoara , Socialist Republic of Romania ) was a Romanian architect and university professor .

Life

Hans Fackelmann came from the ethnic group of the Banat Swabians . After attending the Moise Nicoara high school in Arad, he studied architecture at the Ion Mincu architecture institute in Bucharest from 1953 to 1958 . Between 1958 and 1970 Fackelmann worked at the "Iprotim" design institute in Timișoara, before moving to the department for architecture and systematization of the building faculty of the "Traian Viua" polytechnic institute in 1970 .

In 1959, Fackelmann built the hospital in Bozovici . In 1960 and 1961 he created the plans for the building complex of the University of the West Timișoara , which was completed by 1965. Together with his wife Aurelia (1933-1991), he drew up the construction plans in 1967 for the Music Lyceum Ion Vidu in Timișoara, which was completed in 1969 . In the same year, the administrative headquarters of the Eisernes Tor hydropower plant were built according to his plans . From 1970 to 1985 he worked with Aurelia on the buildings of the Agricultural and Veterinary University of the Banat . From 1980 to 1982, the Timișoara Polytechnic University was built according to their plans.

In addition to his architectural work on the university buildings, Fackelmann designed the Catholic Church in Dumbrăvița between 1976 and 1979 and the Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception of Mary in Orșova between 1972 and 1976, which was consecrated on November 26, 1976 . The construction of new churches in communist Romania was generally not permitted, but the Romanian state issued a special permit for the construction of the new modern church in the higher-lying Neuorschowa, since the old church of the place together with the lower-lying old town of Orschowa around 1972 during the Construction of the dam at the Iron Gate was planned to be flooded. The new church impresses with its idiosyncratic architecture and painting.

Fackelmann was head of the Faculty of Architecture at the Timișoara Polytechnic University. The Romanian Association of Architects appointed him deputy chairman from 1970 to 1979.

In the autumn of 1978 he withdrew due to a serious illness. He died in 1979 and was laid to rest in the Cimitirul din Calea Lipovei cemetery in Timișoara.

Remarks

  1. The new university was built in two stages, the first part as early as 1950, the second part with Fackelmann's significant participation from 1964 to 1965. (Else von Schuster, p. 111)
