history
The place Makija was first mentioned in 1380. In 1394 a road from Makija to Socodor was laid.
From 1830 to 1833 25 German families from Sanktmartin came to Macea. The landlord Peter Csernovics de Matsca had a chapel built for the Catholics from 1855 to 1858. As the chapel became too small over time, the landlord Karoli had a church built, which was consecrated in 1896 by Bishop Alexander Dessewffy .
- Csernovics Castle and Dendrological Park
A sight in the village is the castle of the Csernovics family. After the Peace of Passarowitz (1718) Matscha came into the possession of the Csernovics family. They had a castle built in 1820. It took 25 years to build. After a trip to the Orient, the lord of the palace, Peter Csernovics, brought exotic plants and trees with him: two specimens of Ginkgo biloba , seven specimens of Aesculus hippocastanum and 13 specimens of Platanus acerifolia .
Tiberiu Karoli owned the castle between 1862 and 1866. He built the north wing and gave it its current appearance. At the turn of the millennium, Karoli began to redesign the park, which was enlarged from 10 hectares to 58 hectares. The work was directed by Josef Prohaska from Jimbolia . A swimming pool , an artesian well , a tennis court and several avenues were created. Adam Iancu from Curtici was the new owner from 1939 to 1948 .
From 1945 the park was left to decay. Large areas were cleared, the avenues decayed and many exotic plants perished. In 1968, 20 hectares were designated as a dendrological park and measures to maintain the park were initiated. Since 1960 the park has been under the administration of the Vasile Goldiș University from Arad . There are currently 2241 different plants in the park.
