history
The first documentary mention comes from the year 1359. In 1441 the place belonged to Hellburg . In 1444 Johann Hunyadi donated the village to George Brancovici for his faithful service. The voivod Moga and his sons were rulers of Hălmagiu and 120 other villages in the 15th century.
After the Peace of Karlowitz (1699), Arad and the Maroscher Land came under Austrian rule , while the Banat south of the Marosch remained under Turkish rule until the Peace of Passarowitz (1718) .
As a result of the Austro-Hungarian Compromise (1867), the Arad region, like the whole of Banat and Transylvania, was annexed to the Kingdom of Hungary within the Austro-Hungarian dual monarchy . The official place name was Nagyhalmágy . In 1764 the estate belonged to the Bethlen family.
In the 19th century, Hălmagiu was a city and for a short time even the seat of the local diocese. In the 20th century there was a court, a cadastral office and a notary's office of great importance in Motzer Land.
The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in border regulation, whereby Hălmagiu fell to the Kingdom of Romania .
