history

The first written mention of Selend comes from the year 1332.

Johannis de Solend is mentioned as the namesake in 1334. Over the centuries different spellings of the place name appeared: 1475 Selend , 1598 Selind , 1715 Silingyia , 1722 Silingyia , 1808 Silingyia , Selind , 1828 Silingia , 1839, 1851 Silingyia , 1863 Szilingyia , 1877 Silingyia , 1882 Silingyia , 1886 Silingyia , 1893 , 1900 Silingyia , 1909 Şilindia , Silingya , 1910, 1913 Selénd , Seléndliget , 1921 Şilindia , Selénd , 1932, 1956 Şilindia .

After the Peace of Karlowitz (1699), Arad and the Maroscher Land came under Austrian rule , while the Banat south of the Marosch remained under Turkish rule until the Peace of Passarowitz (1718) . On the Josephine land survey is Szillingije entered. As a result of the Austro-Hungarian Compromise (1867), the Arad region, like the whole of Banat and Transylvania, was annexed to the Kingdom of Hungary within the Austro-Hungarian dual monarchy . The official place name was Selénd . The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in border regulation, whereby Șilindia fell to the Kingdom of Romania .

In 1967 archaeological excavations in Șilindia revealed Dacian coins from the 3rd century BC. Discovered. There are 800 silver coins weighing 10-11 kg. The silver coins are partly in the Arad museum complex (366 coins) and partly in the museum in Oradea (361 coins). Two coins are kept in the Lyceum in Ineu .
