The Sägbach , sometimes also called Kalter Klingenbach , is a brook in the district of Schwäbisch Hall in northeastern Baden-Württemberg , which flows into the upper Jagst from the right after a 3.5 km long, altogether approximately west-southwest run in the municipality of Stimpfach, southwest of the village of Stimpfach .

geography

course

The Sägbach arises about 0.8 km west of the Stimpfach hamlet of Kreßbronn, which is located in a clearing island , on the western edge of the Rechenberg suburb of the municipality. The origin lies at about 491  m above sea level. NHN in the Erlenschlag forest near a forest path crossing, on whose path a blue cross hiking path of the Swabian Alb Association runs from south to north. On its almost one kilometer, initially about a western forest course, the stream crosses this path after less than 50 meters and is soon the border between the Gewannen Stimpfacher Wald on the right and Hellenbühl and later on the Old Castle on the left. After crossing a better forest path, the stream runs through a small forest pond near a forest hut in a small forest clearing area, from where the flat valley hollow deepens into a blade .

About half a kilometer further and 30 meters below the incipient blade crack, the course is reinforced by a shorter right source branch, which arises at a similar height as the Sägbach in the Stimpfach Forest, and the stream begins to turn south. Another three hundred meters further in the valley called the Kalte Klinge , he leaves the forest, which initially extends further to the left bank. Almost two kilometers after its origin, the Hainenbach, a good one kilometer long, runs from a blade to the Sägbach from the east. The valley floor of the Sägbach itself is a wide meadow here, in which the creek swings again to the right to the west between the Hörlesberg spurs in the northwest and the Old Castle closer to the east. In doing so, it runs through a reservoir of over one hectare south of the Stimpfach sports field at the foot of the Hörlesberg peak ( 478.4  m above sea level ). A little below the pond, it crosses under the L 1068 Rechenberg – Stimpfach, now on the west side, which has descended on the left slope of the Hainenbach-Klinge into the now very wide and shallow estuary towards the Jagst.

A little north of the run and the road there are commercial buildings on the southern edge of the village of Stimpfach. Between the Rauhwiesen on the left and the Sägwiesen on the right before the edge of the village of Stimpfach, the Sägbach crosses the Wiesenaue, which slopes gently towards the river, on its last half kilometer. Hundred meters in front of his mouth he takes from the rough meadows still ongoing in this plane in dirt road ditches Weiher Brunnenbach on, then about 600 meters to the southwest flows of the Church of Stimpfach to about 410.2  meters above sea level. NHN from the right and east to the upper Jagst .

Its course, which used to meander through the meadow landscape , was straightened here in the 20th century, while the mouth of the Sägbach was also relocated to the south and west, so that the Weiherbrunnenbach, which formerly flowed directly into the Jagst shortly before it, now flows into it via the Sägbach.

Catchment area

The Sägbach has a catchment area of 4.4 km². From a natural point of view, it is located in the lower area of the Ellwanger Mountains of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains .

The Sägbach arises on the low profile plateau of the eastern Ellwang Mountains in the upper Mittelkeuper in or above the silica sandstone ( Hassberge Formation ). In its forest ravine between the Gewannen Stimpfacher Wald on the right and Old Castle on the left, it digs its way quickly through the Untere Bunten Marl ( Steigerwald formation ) and then reaches the Gipskeuper ( grave field formation ) at the beginning of the wide estuary to the Jagst . After running predominantly in these Triassic strata, it flows into the Quaternary deposited strip of floodplain sediment next to the Jagst.

The highest point of the catchment area is at its east-northeast tip in the Stimpfach Forest next to the Totenweg at about 518  m above sea level. NHN . The north-western watershed from the mouth up to there borders on the catchment area of the larger Reiglersbach , which reaches its Jagst receiving water via a mill canal a little further down the Sägbach . Behind the adjoining southeastern catchment area border , the Klingenbächle and then the Merzenbach run off over the also larger Rechenberger Rot to the upward Jagst. Beyond just a short stretch of the southern watershed, the small Hörbühler Bach also competes above the Jagst.

On more than three fifths of the area there is closed forest in the high and eastern locations. In the wide estuary to the Jagst in the west there are mostly meadows. A newer commercial area on the southern edge of Stimpfach comes close to the lower reaches to less than 100 meters and the north adjoining edge of the residential development of the village Stimpfach is also in the catchment area. Apart from both, there is no settlement whatsoever in the catchment area, but the hamlet of Hörbühl borders on the southern edge of the catchment area . The whole area belongs to the municipality of Stimpfach and for the most part also to the suburbs of its main town Stimpfach, two spandrels in the east to the suburbs of Rechenberg.

Arises at almost 490  m above sea level. NHN in the Stimpfach forest at the beginning of its blade crack.
After this tributary, the Sägbach runs more and more south.
  • Hainenbach , from the left and east to about 428  m above sea level. Arises at about 455  m above sea level. NHN in a hollow on the slope in the north of Ehberg west of Hörbühl and moves on the lower reaches along farm roads .

Mouth of the Sägbach from the right and finally about east to about 410.2  m above sea level. NHN approx. 0.6 km southwest of the Stimpfach church between the Rauh- and the Sägwiesen in the upper Jagst . The Sägbach is 3.5 km long and has a catchment area of approx. 4.4 km².

Nature and protected areas

The large open mouth of the Sägbach is largely part of the Jagsttal landscape protection area with adjacent areas between the district border towards the Ostalbkreis and the bridge of the federal highway 290 over the Jagst near Wiesmühle . A 19 hectare part of the plateau forest a little to the left of the Sägbach-Oberlauf on the Hellenbühl was declared a spell forest Stimpfach ; Here the forest is supposed to develop in undisturbed natural succession on an area once thrown by Storm Wiebke. The eastern part of the catchment area on the forest plateau lies entirely in two water protection areas. In their forest sound of Sägbach be inflow from the Stimpfacher forest and the Hainbach run quite natural meanders, the river bed is partly gritty and often are small sandstone cliff above the runs. The Hainbach up to the mouth and the Sägbach up to the crossing under the L 1068 Rechenberg – Stimpfach follow rows of trees in the open corridor. Below the bank of the Sägbach as well as that of the Weiherbrunnenbach, which runs nowhere in the forest, remains almost bare.

history

To the east, above the confluence of the Hainenbach and the Sägbach, lies around 60 meters above the valleys that open towards the Jagst on the spur of the Burgstall Rappenburg . The only remaining ramparts probably belonged to a prehistoric ring wall system.
