The Reiglersbach is an almost 12 km long brook in the eastern district of Schwäbisch Hall Baden-Württemberg , which flows from the right into the short Mühlkanal on the right of the Jagst after a first southern, then long southwest run in Stimpfach .

geography

course

The Reiglersbach arises at about 512  m above sea level. NN a little northeast of the hamlet Wegses in the Westgartshausen district of Crailsheim just beyond the city limits in the municipality of Kreßberg . The stream runs through a small blade in a small hillside forest to the east and flows from its foot through a slightly steep valley initially approximately to the south. He traverses the Kreßberg hamlet Mistlau, after which he soon changes to Westgartshausen area. Right at the beginning he passes the hamlet of Oßhalden on the right side of the river, from which side his first three larger tributaries also run. About one and a half kilometers below Oßhalden, he reaches the Mittelmühle, where his tributary Brunnenbach from the left and north-northeast at about 443  m above sea level. NN flows, which contributes more to the sub-catchment area than the Reiglersbach owns up to this point and is therefore a kind of second upper course with its own small brook system.

Here the Reiglersbach bends to the right in the last inflow direction of the Brunnenbach and now runs more or less to the southwest until its mouth. The municipality of Fichtenau extends to the left bank for a while, albeit without a settlement on the river . A little after the mill, the Crailsheim area ends at the approaching Engelbach, soon afterwards also the Fichtenauer; the Reiglersbach now runs through the municipality of Stimpfach to its mouth. Right at the beginning of its middle course, it passes the Klinglesmühle on the right, and further down the hamlet of Gerbertshofen mainly on the left bank. A good one kilometer further down, it flows into the Reiglersbachsee , which was created for flood protection on the upper Jagst and is also used as a swimming lake in summer. Shortly before this flows into the Strutbach from the left, in the lake itself from the right the Aalbach and the Schippersbach, with its 2.9 km the longest tributary of the Reiglersbach, as well as a smaller left tributary.

Less than a kilometer further, the Reiglersbach flows through the largest town on the run, the Stimpfach village of Weipertshofen , which is mainly on the right side of the slope. In the local area, two more creek ditches of some length open from the right, followed by only very short tributaries. The next valley settlement is the hamlet of Siglershofen, it is now on the right of the Lauf in the eponymous district of the municipality, while the previous places on the Lauf all belonged to the district of Weipertshofen; The short Holderbach flows across from it. One and a half kilometers further down the valley, the first houses in the main town of Stimpfach appear on the surrounding hills. The Reiglersbach crosses the center of the village and flows into a meadow further from the right and, last of all, east at about 410  m above sea level. NN into the local Mühlkanal branched off shortly before at the weir to the right of the Jagst , which runs back into the river less than 400 meters below.

The Reiglersbach is 11.2 km long and flows out about 108 meters above sea level below its source, so it has a mean bed gradient of about 9.7 ‰.

Catchment area

The Reiglersbach has a catchment area of 26.3 km² - together with the less than 0.1 km² of the Mühlkanal, into which it initially flows. The stream defines the boundary between the Crailsheimer Hardt (in the narrower sense) on its right side, part of the Frankenhöhe natural area , and the Ellwang Mountains on its left, which are part of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains . It extends about 9.5 km from Bergbronn in the north-east to the mouth in Stimpfach in the south-west. It has its greatest width of about 4.4 km in the upper area, where the largest left tributary Brunnenbach with its tributaries is a second upper course that is approximately equivalent to the Reiglersbach upper course itself and even more directional to its middle and lower course.

Almost the entire northwestern watershed borders the catchment area of the Degenbach , the next big Jagst tributary from the right. It runs in this area after a short distance from the mouth next to the Jagsttal to the northeast over the up to 496.2  m above sea level. NN ridge of the wooded Pfannenberg and then slowly rises to about 538  m above sea level. NN at the Steigenwirtshaus Neuhaus on the L 2218, where its highest point is at the northern tip of the catchment area.

The shorter north-eastern watershed that begins here is a section of the European main watershed between the Rhine on this side and the Danube on the other side and its most important section, both orographically and hydrologically, because beyond the sheath, which now roughly follows the route of the L 2218, the neighboring terrain drains via the Zwergwörnitz to the Danube tributary Wörnitz .

From the Kohlplatte forest to the north-east of Wäldershub , the catchment area boundary then turns to the south-west. Now the largest section of the drainage area on the outside of the Rechenberger Rot is located , a more significant upper right inlet of the Jagst compared to the Reiglersbach. The small catchment area of the Sägbach , which flows into the Jagst a little before Stimpfach and the Reiglersbach estuary, is only pushed close to this .

Most of the catchment area, completely from the tributary of the Engelbach, lies in the municipal area of Stimpfach . Before that, a large part of the northeast around the Reiglersbach and its large tributary Brunnenbach belonged to the municipality of Kreßberg . In between, the urban area of Crailsheim joins the Brunnenbach – Reiglersbach water line from the right and the municipal area of Fichtenau from the left.

The Reiglersbach run is closer to the right watershed until the confluence with the left Brunnenbach, then closer to the left; accordingly, the stream has larger and longer tributaries on the middle and lower reaches from the right.

The course of the Reiglersbach is apparently mostly straightened, whereas maps from the 19th century show easily recognizable small loops almost everywhere.

geology

The Reiglersbach drains part of the south-west German Keuperbergland , the outcropping strata in the catchment area are part of the Mittelkeuper from the Kieselsandstein ( Hassberge Formation ) down to the Gipskeuper ( Grabfeld Formation ), in which the stream flows; In the highest parts of the catchment area, especially at the northern tip at the Steigenwirtshaus Neuhof, even higher layers of the Mittelkeupers nis could at best be reached in the form of marl ( Trossingen formation ).

The Reiglersbach itself rises in the transition area from the Kieselsandstein ( Hassberge Formation ) to the Lower Bunter Mergeln ( Steigerwald Formation ) below, after its short source blade reaches the reed sandstone ( Stuttgart Formation ), in which it remains approximately up to the Mittelmühle. There, at the inflow of the Brunnenbach, the layer wedge of the gypsum keuper begins, which extends to the mouth, and which more and more also covers parts of the right edge hill in particular. Even below Gerbertshofen, the stream runs in a strip of floodplain sediment that is sometimes quite wide.

The Brunnenbach arises at a somewhat lower height, but above the layer boundary in the silica sandstone and remains a little way in this layer. From its tributary to the Reiglersbach, its course follows almost to the mouth on the left, fairly close to the edge of the step up to the pebble sandstone. The mostly more distant right watershed runs at the beginning and after an interruption by reed sandstone on the line of the Schippersbach side valley again a little further on the Pfannenberg on the silica sandstone, before it continues unlike on the left on the deeper leveling surface of the reed sandstone below to near the mouth; its plateau is only exposed on the northern edge of the village of Stimpfach.

There are three geotopes on the edge of the steps on the left side of the Brunnenbach – Reiglersbach stretch of water up to the Kieselsandstein, in the Brunnenbach secondary blade of the Ruppersbach, then on a small stream blade after the Mittelmühle, and finally on a Steigen hollow path on the Holenbach opposite Siglershofen. Lower colored marls to silica sandstone, lower colored marls and finally Gipskeuper are open.

The obtuse angle of the mouth of the valley to the current direction of the Jagst flow, which can also be found in other neighboring, larger tributaries from this in the area, as well as the low bed slope roughly in the range of the regional natural stratification speak for a valley formation at the time when the Jagst here still drained in the opposite direction south and across the Urbrenz towards the Danube .

Protected areas and biotopes

The vast majority of the valley floor axis from Brunnenbach and the middle and lower Reiglersbach, the few local locations left out, belongs to the Reiglersbachtal landscape protection area and the surrounding area . Opposite Oßhalden on the Spitzenberg, in the lower side valley of the Schippersbach below the hill forest Schaftrieb and in front of the Eichelberger Hölzle northwest of Siglershofen, there is a heather-like area and two patches of grassland that are designated as small-scale natural monuments .

There is a small remnant of Hutewaldry north of Mistlau, but there are especially many juniper heaths in the valley , which set in after the Schippersbach inflow, especially on the right slope in the area of the Weipertshofen glider airfield, occupying large areas and more sporadically and small areas up to about 0.7 km continue north of the outskirts of Stimpfach. On the Reiglersbach itself there are smaller wetlands between Mittelmühle and Klinglesmühle and along the Aalbach, which flows into the Reiglersbachsee parallel to the main body of water. From the left side of the valley - including the Brunnenbachr - some rather short blades , at least initially wooded, run towards them.
