The country area of the imperial city of Dinkelsbühl

Oßhalden was mentioned for the first time in a document under the name Aschalden in 1345, in another mention the place is referred to as Oshalden in 1357 . During the 14th century, the Counts of Helfenstein issued fiefdoms in Oßhalden, and other possessions were in the hands of the barons of Ellrichshausen . In the 15th century almost the entire village was acquired by the imperial city of Dinkelsbühl and formed an exclave of this territory until the end of the Holy Roman Empire , to which the two farms Klinglesmühle and Nestleinsberg also belonged. Only the noble family Geyer von Goldbach and the Hohenzollern principality of Brandenburg-Ansbach kept a small share of the property in Oßhalden. The Vogteiliche authority was exercised by the landlords of the place, the other rulership rights were in the hands of Brandenburg-Ansbach, including above all the jurisdiction .

After the existence of the imperial city of Dinkelsbühl had come to an end with the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1802/1803, Oßhalden came into the possession of the Kingdom of Württemberg . After that, the place belonged to the newly created Oberamt Crailsheim and, through the administrative reforms carried out in the Kingdom of Württemberg at the beginning of the 19th century, became part of the independent rural community of Westgartshausen , which also includes the hamlets of Lohr , Ofenbach , Schüttberg , Wegses and Wittau as well as the homestead Mittelmühle belonged. Oßhalden has been a district of Crailsheim since 1973, after it was incorporated into the city of Crailsheim together with the entire municipality of Westgartshausen as part of the municipal regional reform.
