history
The first written mention of the Zemlekhaza settlement comes from 1256, when the estate belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary . The Hungarian King Andrew II donated the property to the Diocese of Csanád .
In 1320 the Hungarian King Charles I Robert von Anjou donated the estate to Count Johann Zemleky. Romanian settlers are mentioned for the first time in the 11th century and Serbs came in the 15th century who also built the first Greek Orthodox church . Between 1564 and 1697 the place was under Turkish rule and was expanded into a fortified settlement. Even at the time of the Tisza-Maroscher military border , Semlak was an important base on the north bank of the Marosch and was mainly inhabited by Serbian fortified farmers.
The Hungarian court chamber sold the Semlak estate in 1841 to Count Gustav Hádik von Futok, who owned it until the revolution of 1848 . In 1819 the Hungarian court chamber settled the first Germans . They were Evangelical Augsburg Confessions from the town of Mezöberény in Békés County . They were followed from 1823 to 1827 about 38 German families from the west of Debrecen located Balmazújváros . These were evangelically reformed and belonged to the Helvetian creed .
By the Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 Semlak fell to the Kingdom of Romania .
