history

Magna Villa was first mentioned in documents in 1333 and 1334. During the Turkish era, the place was inhabited and had 70 houses (1557–1558). On the Josephine land survey of 1717, the place is registered with 16 houses. After the Peace of Passarowitz (1718), when the Banat became a Habsburg crown domain , Großdorf was part of the Temescher Banat . For the year 1773 140 houses were recorded.

In 1796, Germans came from Perjamosch to Großdorf, later Germans also moved from other Banat villages ( Variaș , Lovrin , Triebswetter , Alexanderhausen , Biled ). Großdorf was a Serbian village until the Germans arrived. The first Romanians were registered in 1880.

After the Banat was divided into three on June 4, 1920 as a result of the Treaty of Trianon , Großdorf fell to the Kingdom of Romania . Since then the official name has been Satu Mare.
