history
Ghioroc was first documented in 1135.
After the Treaty of Karlowitz (1699) Arad and the Maroscher Land came under Austrian rule , while the Banat south of the Marosch remained under Turkish rule until the Peace of Passarowitz (1718) . Gijorak is entered on the Josephine land survey of 1717 . As a result of the Austro-Hungarian Compromise (1867), the Arad region was annexed to the Kingdom of Hungary within the Austro-Hungarian dual monarchy . The official place name was Gyorok . The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the regulation of borders , whereby Ghioroc fell to the Kingdom of Romania .
The first electrified railway in Eastern Europe "Săgeata Verde" (German: Green Arrow) was set up in Ghioroc in 1913. The local winegrowers in particular benefited from it, bringing their harvest to the markets of Arad. The route had three sections: Arad-Ghioroc, Ghioroc- Pâncota and Ghioroc- Radna . To finance the route, the "Anonymous Railway Society Arader Weinberge" (Romanian: Societatea Anonimă Calea Ferată Arad-Podgoria) was founded. Today there is only the Arad-Ghioroc tram connection. In the Transport Museum (Romanian: Muzeul Transporturilor) in Ghioroc you can book a trip on the original train from 1913 "Săgeata Verde", which is now painted green, but was originally gray.
There is a modern winery and wine museum in Ghioroc . Ghioroc is also the starting point for numerous tourist routes into the Zărand Mountains.
