Curtici [ ˈkurtitʃʲ ] ( Hungarian Kürtös , German  Kurtitsch ) is a small town in the Arad district , in the Kreisch area , in western Romania .

Geographical location

Curtici is located in the west of the Arad district, on the border with Hungary , 17 kilometers from the district capital Arad .

Neighboring municipalities are the Hungarian village of Mácsa in the north, Andrei reiaguna in the east, the villages of Sânpaul and Șofronea in the south and the municipality of Dorobanți in the west .

history

Curtici was first mentioned in a document in 1519. In the interwar period it was named "Decebal" by the Romanian authorities. Curtici was declared a city on February 16, 1968.

economy

As a border town with Hungary, Curtici is of particular importance as a customs and border crossing station for rail traffic , as it is on the Budapest – Bucharest route . Curtici is the main rail border crossing between Hungary and Romania.

Government resolution No. 449 of June 8, 1999 declared an area of ​​90 hectares between Curtici, Arad and the border with Hungary to be a free economic zone. The Curtici – Arad Free Zone ( Romanian Zona Liberă Curtici Arad , SLCA for short) has the purpose of attracting national and international investors through various benefits, especially in the tax area. The Curtici – Arad free economic zone is conveniently located and can be easily reached by train, car or via Arad Airport , which it is adjacent to.
